My Top 8 Must-Have Beauty Products

All right, it’s no secret. I am obsessed with makeup. Makeup is a form of art. It allows you to craft different personas by trying on different style of makeup. Now, I’m no makeup artist but I love playing with it and experimenting different products. Although as we all know it, my signature makeup look is black winged eyeliner, vegas nay lashes, and red lipstick. Despite of this classic look, I like to try a lot of different products from high-end products to your local drugstore makeup. I love a quality makeup and an affordable price. If it's both, I call it a win!

If you love makeup, you know that there’s a shit ton of steps when applying makeup.

Per Pinterest, here's the 10 easy steps of makeup application:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Serum/Treatment
  3. Moisturizer
  4. Primer
  5. Foundation
  6. Concealer
  7. Powder
  8. Bronzer
  9. Blush
  10. Highlight
Yikes! What an exhaustive list. That said, I wont go in to all the in-depth products I use everyday but rather my Top 8 Must-Have Everyday Beauty Products. In this post, I’ll be talking about my must-haves favorite everyday products that are my go to in beauty. And don’t even get me started with skin care routine. That’s a whole another beast that I am still trying to learn but probably the most expensive (yet crucial routine) one must practice especially if you use a lot of products in your face.

Now, I am no professional so take this advice with a grain of salt. These products that I’ll cover here has got to be my go-to makeup (across high end and drugstore makeup. Let’s start, shall we?

FOUNDATION

I’ve tried several foundation in my lifetime from different high end foundation (makeup forever, naked, Kat von D, Marc Jacobs, etc) to your local drugstore makeup (cover girl, loreal, etc). I’ve dabbled enough but my favorite one for me is this Lancome Foundation. I wear 380 Bisque W based on the Skin IQ at Sephora. Now, if you’re going to buy a foundation you want to ensure you’re using the right color for you. Don’t guess. Skin IQ at Sephora is free and it will help you choose the correct color for you. I know $47 is a little steep but it’s seriously worth the splurge. A little goes a long way and obviously use a foundation brush to maximize foundation coverage as well. This product is so light on your face with maximum coverage—no worries about feeling cakey here. This product usually last me up to 3 months. So $47 is very well justified. No breakouts, no problem. I cannot recommend this enough!

EYEBROWS

AnastasiaEyebrows Brow Definer is a MUST have eyebrow product. Makeup artists everywhere swear by this product! Easiest application and it does wonders to the brows. Although I could still improve my eyebrows game, this is the perfect tool to have in my disposal. Quick, easy, and precise. You can’t really lose out on this one. This baby is only $23. $23 is worth it since this product lasts me for 2 months. Also the time you’re saving is well-worth every penny. MUST HAVE! I use dark brown shade on mine.

LIPSTICKS

Bottom Left: Nyx Butter Gloss Berry Strudel ; Bottom Right: ABH - Madison

While I love my red lipsticks (my favorite is Sephora cream lip stain - always red), lately I’ve been into the pinks and purples. For this purpose, I am sharing my 2 new favorite lipstick shade: NYX Intense Butter Gloss shade Berry Strudel ($6; I got mine as a free sample) and Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in the shade of Madison ($20). The bottom left picture is with the NYX intense butter gloss and nthe right is Anastasia Beverly Hills – Madison. I love both of them equally.

For NYX Intense Butter gloss, it’s SO pigmented and glossy but it still feels really good on the lips. It’s not grossly sticky and honestly this NYX Berry Strudel shade made my teeth look whiter. Win-Win! Some people might stay away from the purple because it’s a little “much” for a daytime look but I beg to differ. It’s more bright but in a way that it’s acceptable on the daylight. I feel fierce with this shade!  It’s also only $6. What a steal if you ask me!

The bottom right picture is with me in ABH – Madison liquid lipstick. It’s a lot more subtle than NYX berry strudel and it’s matte instead of gloss—which I love. Pigment is also very good. ABH lipsticks have served me well overall.  Worth every penny!

EYELINER (Top)

Again, I've tried several liquid eyeliners in my life. NYX liquid eyeliner game is on point. They last for a long time, no weird creases, and it wears pretty long. I've received a makeup sample for NYX epic ink liner and I absolutely adore it. You can get this at your local target or the NYX store for only $8. The quality of this product surpised me as it's durability beats some of the higher end products I've tried. Pigment, quick, and easy is the name of the game here. I recommend!

EYELINER (BOTTOM)

I’ve also tried several eyeliners for my bottom lids. Out of all the high end products (e.g., marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, stila, etc), this drug store eye pencil from Cover Girl Perfect Pointe Plus in the shade Black Onyx has got to be my ULTIMATE favorite. I’ve used this baby for 10 years and it’s still the forerunner. It’s super precise, easy, perfectly black, and long-wearing. It’s also only $4.99 at your local Target!

LIP COLOR REMOVER

I also was lucky enough to receive this product as a free sample. At first, I was skeptical since I've tried similar products like this but it never really works. Or it works but it's gross and gooey. This product not only works but it does work so smoothly without that gooey residue. If you're like me and love to reapply different lipstick colors throughout the day, you'll find this product very handy. If I'm over purple and want to switch to my classic red lips for the day, no worries! One squeeze -- it's gone! Ready for some new reapplication ! You can get this product for only $5 at your local target or the NYX website.

OIL BLOTTING SHEETS

Clean and Clear - $4.49
If you're anything like me and have a dry and oily (T-Zone) combo, you'll likely need an oil blotting sheet. The researcher in me of course have tried several other oil absorbing sheets. Because, how would I know if this is the best if I haven't tried the other products (amirite)? This specific product removes excess oil while leaving your makeup unscathed. It's durable and removes as much oil as it is in your face. If you're fairly oily, consider this product as an investment. It helps prevent your skin from developing pimples if you remove that excess oil (along with a skincare regimen of course). I love this product! Highly recommend if you're in search of an oil blotting sheet.

Fin

I love playing makeup for me (not for anyone else). Makeup allows me to play with different personas. It allows me to feel more confident, be playful, and feel good about myself. Make up is an art. If you love it, go for it. If it's not for you, that's fine too! Here's to hoping that I'll try more variety in my makeup style this 2017 and to an improved skin care routine!

Xo,
Maria
